The Lego Project

These videos are a culmination of our yearlong Lego Movie Project in which 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students at P.S. 204 (the Vince Lombardi School) transform texts from their own coursework into Lego scenes. Students applied strategies like Story Grammar Marker and vocabulary strategies, among others, to create their scenes. These were then implemented into smaller assignments in order to improve their ability to elaborate on the salient details of the stories. Students applied deep focus in developing more descriptive settings by exploring their 5 senses, for example. They then explained the characters’ feelings and motivations by generating and expanding dialogue scenes between different characters.

Students worked in small groups where they used checklists to provide constructive feedback on each others’ writing. Altogether, these smaller assignments helped build student’s confidence to generate and apply to longer Lego Movie projects at the end of the academic year.
